After weeks of rumors it is now official: The upcoming Oscar ceremony will be postponed following the Corona epidemic that has disrupted the film industry in recent months. The American Film Academy organizing the world's largest ceremony finally announced that the 93rd Academy Awards ceremony, which was scheduled to be held in late February 2021, was postponed for two months and is now scheduled for Sunday, April 25, 2021.

The rejection joins a series of cancellations of many international events such as the Cannes Film Festival and significant rejection by others, including the Eurovision Song Contest and the Tokyo Olympics that have moved a full year ahead in the wake of the world's corona expansion.

The film industry was stopped in March, just a few weeks after the previous Oscars in early February, which won the South Korean film "Parasites." Closing cinemas due to closure restrictions all over the world and freezing footage of film productions have resulted in early assessments that organizers of the ceremony will have to consider the situation and postpone the ceremony. This will extend the time period for the films of the year, which hope to be nominated.

At the same time, the manner in which the ceremony is held is still a big question mark given the existing situation and the restoration of the industry. "For over a century, cinema has served an important, comforting, inspiring and entertaining role in our darkest times - and so it has completely happened in the current year," said academy chairman Don Hudson and incumbent David Rubin.

"Our hope is to extend the time period for eligibility and examination of the films as well as the date of the ceremony to allow the filmmakers the flexibility to finish and release their films without having to be punished for anything beyond their control."

The academy also announced the postponement of the opening of the Oscar in question, which was built in recent years in Los Angeles and was scheduled to open in December. The new date will be at the end of April, in close proximity to the next Oscars.

In addition to the announcement by the Academy of Film, organizers of the upcoming Emmy Ceremony of the television industry have already officially announced a change in plans due to the Corona constraint. The two Emmy ceremonies in the technical categories held the previous week for the large-scale ceremony celebrating achievements on the small screen this past year will take place in a virtual broadcast. In addition, the festive governor's ball, which is held every year, is immediately canceled.

The big question is what will be the fate of the main ceremony - an issue on which the organizers of the television academy have not yet decided. Currently, it is still scheduled to take place on some Sunday, September 20th.
