No hearty dish without garlic - do you recognize yourself? Then you really shouldn't miss this trick for extra taste.

The garlic has a distinctive smell and taste that many love. Cooking with the distinctive tuber is simply part of it, but that doesn't mean that you already know everything. British celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey shares a trick you should know.

So you have to work on garlic for the best taste

Do you need aromatic garlic paste but don't have a garlic press? Don't worry, you shouldn't use them anyway, because pressed cloves of garlic develop a much more aggressive taste and burns faster. The solution: salt. This is how the practical tip from the TV chef works :

  • Squeeze the clove of garlic slightly with the knife blade.
  • Now the skin can be easily removed from the clove of garlic.
  • Start chopping the garlic finely with a sharp blade.
  • Add some coarse salt and continue chopping until a paste is formed.

This is how the salt in garlic works

The salt is an excellent binding agent and, according to Ramsey, ensures that not all the juice comes out when chopping and the good taste is also lost. But be careful: if you use your  homemade garlic paste afterwards when cooking, you have to remember that it is a bit salty. So you may need to salt the dish less. Just taste it carefully.

    How to season with garlic

When should you add your homemade garlic paste to the dish to get the best taste? That depends on how much liquid the recipe contains. If it is a "dry matter", add the garlic only when about half the cooking time is up. This will prevent the garlic from burning and becoming bitter. If there is more liquid, you don't have to look at it as closely. In general, however, it is better to add the garlic a little late than too early.
