  • A beautiful photo apparently causes some Android smartphones to crash.
  • You just shouldn't use it as a background.
  • The warning goes viral - the photographer has also spoken.

San Diego - An unusual bug is causing a stir on the web: A harmless-looking photo that was uploaded to Flickr * apparently causes cellphones to crash. Already the warning from "Ice Universe" on Twitter went viral. They collected more than 30,000 likes and around 27,000 retweets. And even if the warning looks suspicious, it actually seems to be correct.

Of course, just looking at the photo is not enough. But obviously you shouldn't choose it as the background image. "Warning! Never set this photo as the background, especially not for Samsung mobile phone users ! It will crash your phone. Don't try it! If someone sends you this picture, please ignore it. "

Android phones: Photo apparently causes problems and crashes

That sounds dubious. And of course we didn't test it ourselves. But the unusual danger actually seems to exist - the BBC also reports about it and has meanwhile spoken to the amateur photographer. He lives in San Diego and fell out of the clouds when he found out what kind of waves his photo made. He had taken it on a "magic evening" in August 2019 at  St Mary Lake in Glacier National Park in Montana . And uploaded to the Flickr photo service.

According to the BBC, some Android phones were very allergic to the photo - they always turn on and off and have to be reset to factory settings , which leads to data loss. Some are affected, but not all brands with the Android 10 * operating system .

Android phones: photographer sad about unexpected consequences

"I didn't do anything on purpose," explains the photographer. "I'm sad that people end up having these problems."

He therefore took the photo with his Nikon camera and edited it with the Lightroom program , which offers three color mode options. Some Android smartphones are very allergic to this. "I have an iPhone and my background is always a photo of my wife," said the photographer. Who would have liked his photo to go viral for other reasons.

The BBC also consulted experts to find out the reason for the crash - to put it simply, it may have to do with the fact that the cell phones have problems correctly recognizing the color space. Most smartphone users should not care about the details . You should only adhere to one requirement: just don't take this actually so beautiful photo as the background!

What this hobby cook does with her pizza also went viral.
