Women's knees look unhealthy, emaciated and old. We will explain why the so-called knotty knees can actually pose a health  risk and what can be done about them. If you take the warning signals seriously and interpret them correctly, you can easily get the problem under control.

How do you get knobbly knees?

When looking at the knobbly knees, one thinks that the legs belong to an older lady with arthrotic joints *, but not to young women. Extremely thin women in particular can get knees that look very thin  and bony. Like the orthopedist Dr. med. Martin Marianowicz  from Munich told the online portal Stylebook, increased muscle breakdown  due to poor nutrition is often the problem. From a certain age, around 50 or 55, a physiological process begins in which muscles are broken down. At this age, the appearance of knobbly knees is absolutely natural . In younger women, however, the emaciated knees usually appear as a result of poor and improper nutrition  .

Why are knobbly knees a health hazard?

If the body does not get enough amino acids and proteins  from food over a longer period of time , it can not maintain the existing muscles and cannot build new ones . The lack of muscle pads makes the cartilage, bursa and bones of  the knee joints more visible because they are only surrounded by a thin layer of skin. Due to the lack of muscles, the joint can no longer be adequately protected and there is a risk of injury . With increasing age, the risk of developing osteoarthritis, the wear of the knee joints, can increase significantly. Permanent malnutrition can also have negative effects in other areas of the body and is very dangerous to health.

A balanced diet and regular exercise prevent bony knees

The breakdown of muscles is part of age . Dr. However, Marianowicz recommends to counteract the development positively by regular fitness and strength exercises . Weekly sports sessions not only help the knee joint, but also promote the muscles throughout the body *. A healthy and balanced diet  with sufficient proteins, omega-3 fatty acids and carbohydrates is just as important .
