"Jedi: Fallen Order" is the latest "Star Wars" game from EA. Though far from perfect, it's the best "Star Wars" game in years.

  • The 2010s didn't have many video games for Star Wars fans.
  • At the end of 2019 "Jedi: Fallen Order" was released.
  • Why this title is the best Star Wars game in the past decade.

"Jedi: Fallen Order": The best "Star Wars" game in recent years

No other film franchise has had as many video game adaptations as " Star Wars ". The first War of the Stars games for arcade machines were published in arcades in the 80s. Even today, laser swords, X-Wings, TIE fighters, Jedi and Sith are very popular with many players. "Star Wars: Squadrons *" was recently announced. But in the past decade, new Star Wars games have been few and far between.

Shortly before the end of the 2010s, " Jedi: Fallen Order " came on the market - and finally a really good Star Wars game . Sure, "Jedi: Fallen Order" definitely has its corners and edges and almost brazenly looks at other titles in terms of gameplay. Still, it far outstrips all Star Wars games in the past ten years.

"Star Wars" games: In short supply in the 2010s

Let's look back: In 2010, for example, the very popular " Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 " was released, which offered an interesting story, but left something to be desired in other places - such as the spongy controls.

It wasn't until five years  later that the new edition of " Battlefront" came onto the market in 2015 . The announcement raised the anticipation and expectations of many fans. But the game wasn't just sobering - it was a real disappointment. " Battlefront 2 " did a lot better there: a single player campaign, a  lot more variety in online multiplayer as well as constantly new content in the form of maps, game modes and more.

"Battlefront 2" is not a classic "Star Wars" game

Despite the extensive multiplayer mode, "Battlefront 2" also lacked that certain something that made the old "Star Wars" titles so special and unique. Even if fans of the game are turning their noses at the latest - "Battlefront 2" unfortunately only felt like a mess of the films. This is not necessarily a bad thing in itself, but it lacks the uniqueness that has characterized classics such as " Jedi Knight ", " Knights of the Old Republic ", " Shadows of the Empire ".

EA has learned from its mistakes

So alone - "Jedi: Fallen Order" completely dispenses with a multiplayer mode.

Before "Jedi: Fallen Order" EA had announced two more promising titles: " Star Wars 1313 " or the untitled game from the developer studio Visceral were both canceled. Both should be single player games without microtransactions - was that why they weren't interesting for EA?

" Jedi: Fallen Order " proved the opposite - a pure single player without any microtransaction and "only" about 20 hours of playing time . All features that are extremely unusual for EA games. In addition, "Jedi: Fallen Order" offers a completely independent story that has virtually no relation to characters and actions from the films. There is no trace of fan service in this regard.

Star Wars fans can look forward to the new games

Whoever waved this through did "Star Wars" fans a huge favor and hopefully cleared the way for more games of this kind .

The latest announcement of "Star Wars: Squadrons" shows that this is the case. The focus is on dogfights with well-known space fighters from the franchise. There will be a multiplayer mode, but it will be refreshingly compact. There should only be a 5-on-5 online mode. In addition, EA has confirmed that "Squadrons" will be able to do without any micro transactions for money.

EA doesn't seem to want to repeat the lull about "Star Wars" games in the 2010s. We are already looking forward to "Squadrons" and "Jedi: Fallen Order 2" that hopefully it is not too far in the future. There is no information yet.

Also interesting : Several "Star Wars" series planned for Disney + - and moviegoers should be disappointed.
