Laurel oil, chilli or matches: These home remedies deter flies
After all, every child knows that flies can transmit, for example, (faecal) bacteria, which they pass on during their stopovers. So if you rightly want to keep them away from food & Co., you should take the following tips or home remedies to heart, with which you can easily drive the insects away.
Essential oils
Flies do not taste essential oils, which is why they can easily be put off by the smell and seek out the distance. Laurel oil is particularly effective here. So put a few drops of the oil in a fragrance lamp with a little water. This then exudes the fragrance in the respective room. Alternatively, you can fill the mixture in a spray bottle and put it specifically on the trash can, fruit bowl & Co.
The situation is similar with cloves . Again, get the oil and put it in a fragrance lamp. If you don't have one, you can simply cut a lemon in the middle, drape the cloves on it and put the decoration in the window.
The smell of eucalyptus oil is too penetrating to the flies, which is why you can use it instead of laurel or clove oil.
Hot spices
Chilli or cayenne pepper also act as a deterrent to pests. Enter the powder just in a bowl with warm water and dissolve them in it . Then put it in the window or at other "assembly points". By the way, you can also pour the mixture into a spray bottle and spray it on particularly delicate areas.
Tomato patch

Matches against larvae
However, if you frolic in and around the houseplants, you should try this unusual trick: take matches and stick your head down into the potting soil . The reason for this: the so-called mourning fly is only too happy to lay its eggs in the potting soil and the larvae then feed on the plant roots. Put the matchstick head in the ground and then pour water on it, releasing sulfur, which kills the larvae.
Fly paper
Otherwise, you also have the option of simply laying out fly paper. You can buy this in the drugstore or you can do it yourself . Instructions can be found on Brigitte.de: To do this, fill 750 milliliters of sunflower oil in a saucepan. Then add a few spoons of honey and some resin. Warm the mixture until the resin becomes liquid. Then cut baking paper into strips and dip it into the sticky mass . When it is cool and dry, you can lay out the homemade fly paper.
