Crystal glasses, silverware, tablecloths, sheets and linens of the Hotel Ritz in Paris will go on sale from Sunday to Tuesday at the Artcurial auction house, two years after the sale of its historic furnishings.
Famous all over the world, the ancient hotel in Place Vendome - the object of major renovations in recent years - has been frequented by personalities such as Marcel Proust, Ernest Hemingway, Coco Chanel or Audrey Hepburn.
Some of them dined on those same tablecloths, drank in the same glasses, slept in the same sheets that will now be auctioned. About 1,500 lots are as many testimonies of the "art of the table and the French art de vivre", writes Artcurial.
The sale, which was initially expected to take place in early April, was postponed due to the coronavirus epidemic. The basic estimates vary from 100/150 euros to 4,000 / 6,000 euros and are therefore not reserved only for Scrooges. Two ashtrays of the famous Ritz are sold at an initial price of 100/150 euros while a Christofle service trolley is estimated at around 4,000 / 6,000 euros. Among the most beautiful dishes that will go to the auction in Paris, the so-called 'Marthe' wanted by César Ritz in 1898 for the opening of the hotel and the 'Ritz Club' service imagined by Jean Boggio.
