While defining the protocols for a staggered return to classrooms amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Minister of Education, Nicolás Trotta, assured on Tuesday that the university system will be the last of the educational levels to return to classes.

"Of all the educational levels, we project that the Universities will be the last to return to the classrooms , because they are the best prepared for distance learning and educational virtualization," he explained in an official.

However, he clarified that "this does not mean that there are Universities in regions with a low circulation of the virus that cannot return after the winter holidays with different characteristics."

Regarding primary and secondary school, the minister pointed out that "there is a great possibility that the return to classes will be first in the regions, districts and provinces that have zero or very low circulation of the virus."

" If this reality continues, we estimate a return to school after the winter holidays, " he said. He added: " The school will be different from the one in March . There will be training for teachers and non-teachers, in addition to preparing students and families so that they can go to this new school, with social distancing and preventive hygiene measures."

In addition, he explained that the different ministries of Education are working on the reorganization of the elective cycle, so that "each of the knowledge that cannot be addressed this year, can be reorganized in 2021 and 2022."

Lastly, he criticized the educational policies of the Mauricio Macri government: "What has to be changed in the bud is the prioritization that the education system should have and in that sense the last four years were very negative ."

In this sense, he maintained that "there was a retraction of the State in terms of investment, less infrastructure, lower teacher salaries, fewer instances of teacher training and even abandonment of plans such as the Plan to Connect Equality."

"Argentina knew how to build consensus in the educational field even with the party that ruled between 2015 and 2019. However, once it took office, it erased with the elbow all the commitments it had made," he concluded.
