The Mexican club Cruz Azul recorded 22 positive cases at Covid-19, including 8 in its male team and 14 in its female team. "On June 24, new Covid-19 tests were carried out on the players and the coach of the first team. The result is 8 positive cases," explained the Mexican Liga in a press release.
Cruz Azul is currently pre-seasoning out of the Mexican capital, but the club has decided to move its infected players to the capital "to keep them in isolation," said the Mexican Liga.
Cruz Azul had two successful cases last week, including Uruguayan international striker Jonathan Rodriguez.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 Mexican football championship closing tournament was definitively ended in May by the league without giving it a title.
Football will resume in Mexico in early July, after a four-month hiatus, with a friendly tournament behind closed doors between eight teams, whose income from television rights will go to the children of health workers who died during the pandemic.
