"Jumbo"

Jeanne, a young girl who adores objects, falls in love with Jumbo, the new gleaming roller coaster of a small local amusement park: she will fall madly in love with it and embark on a torrid carnal connection with this ride responds to it with its mechanical movements. But Jeanne will have to face the gaze of her loved ones, especially her mother Margarette, on this extraordinary relationship ...

Strange and fascinating first Belgian feature film, certainly not an easy film in the form of a metaphor for extraordinary love, this ode to those who love difference, if it can put off some, will amaze others by its mastery. The young director Zoé Wittock shows real vision and takes the viewer far away while not drowning him in the bizarre, thanks to scenes full of fantasy.

EDITOR'S NOTE: 4/5

“Jumbo” , by Zoé Wittock, with Noémie Merlant, Emmanuelle Bercot, Sam Louwyck… 1h33.

"The perfumes"

Anne Walberg is a “nose”: she creates perfumes for perfumers or companies. A star in her field, she travels a lot across France, driven by the drivers of a private company. One day, Guillaume finds himself driving his car. This broke father is as sympathetic and spontaneous as she is selfish and misanthropic. But these two will discover that they can help each other…

There is a little side "Miss Daisy and her driver" in "Perfumes". The idea of the mismatched tandem whose members will eventually get closer is not very original, but this duo is charming and subtly interpreted. And with great delicacy, the film does not take us quite where we thought we were going ...

EDITOR'S NOTE: 3/5

"Les Parfums" , a French comedy by Grégory Magne. With Emmanuelle Devos, Grégory Montel, Gustave Kervern… 1h40.

"Brooklyn Secret"

Olivia works as a homemaker in Brooklyn at the home of Olga, an old Russian woman who is losing her mind. A Filipino immigrant and transgender, Olivia also tries to get a white marriage by paying an American to marry her. In "Brooklyn Secret", Filipino-born director Isabel Sandoval - who plays the role of Olivia - tells an original love story, but mostly talks about the condition of illegal immigrants in Trump's America. It shows Olivia's fear of police arrests and her permanent feeling of vulnerability. A melancholic and subtle film.

EDITOR'S NOTE: 3.5 / 5

"Brooklyn secret" , an American drama by Isabel Sandoval. With Isabel Sandoval, Eamon Farren… 1h29.

"The room mate"

To replace his brother who has just left, Juan, who lives in the suburbs of Buenos Aires, has found a new roommate: Gabriel, one of his carpentry colleagues. Juan goes on with female conquests and spends his evenings watching football with his friends while drinking beers. However, the two men will be attracted to each other ...

"The Roommate" follows the relationship between Juan and Gabriel from the first troubles to the outbreak of deep feelings. The film contains scenes of raw sex, but through the many silences, it immerses us especially with great accuracy in the heads of these two men torn between their desire and their social image or their destiny.

EDITOR'S NOTE: 3.5 / 5

"Le Colocataire" , an Argentinian drama by Marco Berger. With Gaston Re, Alfonso Barón, Malena Irusta… 2 hours.

"Irresistible"

A Democratic political consultant arrives in a small town in Wisconsin to convince a farmer to run for mayor with party support. After the clash of cultures, the two men will try to win, while facing a Republican rival who comes to help the mayor in place ...

Virulent criticism of the American election system, "Irresistible", if it turns out to be a little too cynical at times, offers with its humorous tone sequences of howling with laughter, which underline the difference between town and country, between politically correct and speak the truth, between the lives of "normal" people and that of the wealthy in Washington. The choir of comedians at work contributes brilliantly to the success of the film.

EDITOR'S NOTE: 3.5 / 5

“Irrésistible” , by Jon Stewart, Steve Carell, Chris Cooper, Rose Byrne, Mackenzie Davis… 1h42.

"Forbidden Hollywood"

Before 1934, date of implementation of the Hays Code, which banned nudity and established a list of subjects "to avoid" - adultery, violence, amorality ... - in the production of films in Hollywood, directors and actors took advantage of golden age to release films evoking, among other things, crime, sexuality, the emancipation of women. Films which were later banned in theaters.

The Warner studio stands out in theaters ten of these so-called “pre-code” films, some of which were never released in theaters, which existed on DVD in the “Forbidden Hollywood” collection. They are all of an excellent standard and allow you to discover nuggets like "Female", and even masterpieces like "Baby Face". All of them reverse the balance of power between men and women, showing an astonishing feminism before the time. And they display stars of the time at their casting, such as Barbara Stanwick, Jean Harlow, Clark Gable or James Cagney.

EDITOR'S NOTE: 4/5

"Forbidden Hollywood" , ten Warner films from 1930 to 1934. Duration: between 1 hour and 1 hour 50 minutes.
