Not all the students have returned to their school. Since the simplification of the health protocol on June 22, facilitating the return of all students to class, only a little over 80% have returned.
Questioned on Wednesday on RTL, the Minister of Education, Jean-Michel Blanquer, said that "just under 20%" have not crossed the door of their establishment. They are just over 80% in elementary school and more than 75% in college. The lycées were not affected by this total recovery, the period corresponding in any case to that of the exams and no longer to that of the courses.
Despite the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Minister believes that these percentages of absentees, "it's still a lot" while attendance at school is "fundamental" and "essential".
Towards a “normal” return to school in September
These figures should however be put into perspective. As Jean-Michel Blanquer himself reminds us, students are far from all being present in schools and colleges at the end of June-early July in normal times. “Some go on vacation. There, we had more students than usual, ”he says.

We believe that the sanitary conditions will allow a normal return to class. He said, however, "to prepare for possible crises during the year".
