The Amedeo Modigliani Archives "have been seized by the judicial authority of the Canton Ticino since mid-May. Finally, the material that arrived in Switzerland after being unduly stolen from the Italian state is safe in the hands of a governmental authority". This was revealed by the journalist Dania Mondini and the criminologist Claudio Loiodice, authors of the investigative book 'The Modigliani affair'. In the volume, published by Chiarelettere, an international intrigue had been reconstructed concerning the 6000 artifacts belonging to the Livornese painter and his family. "The Archives - explain Mondini and Loiodice - in 2006 had been transferred to the Italian national heritage by the granddaughter and sole heir of Amedeo Modigliani, Laure Nechtschein, as is clear from documents that we acquired from the Superintendency. With a suspicious agreement between Chistian Parisot (president of the Modigliani Archives, ed) and Mariastellina Marescalch (art dealer, ed), the Archives were then definitively 'flown' abroad.
Now, with a surprise operation, the cantonal police have blocked the Modigliani Archives at the free port of Geneva. A few weeks ago - Mondini and Loiodice continue -. Senator Margherita Corrado of the Culture Commission had addressed a parliamentary question to Minister Franceschii about Mibac's intentions to recover the precious finds, but to date no response from the Ministry, despite the Asti Prosecutor's Office having launched an investigation into the methods of escape from the Archives Modigliani from our country
