16 new deaths from coronavirus confirmed and 1,523 fatalities in Argentina

The national Ministry of Health confirmed on Monday another 16 deaths from coronavirus compared to the latest report, bringing the number of fatalities in the country to 1,523.

Alejandro Costa, Undersecretary of Health Strategies, was in charge of informing the updated figures of the pandemic in the country. He indicated that the case fatality rate is 1.9%, that there are 33 deaths per million inhabitants and that the average age of fatal victims is 75 years.

According to the official, 77,815 people contracted the disease , of which 1.4% was due to a history of travel, 35% due to close contact with one case and 46.6% was due to community transmission, mainly in the area. metropolitan of Buenos Aires, Chaco, Neuquén and Río Negro.

In total, 676 people are hospitalized in intensive care . Thus, the percentage of bed occupancy is 51.4% nationwide and 57.7% in the metropolitan area, the most affected area in the country.

The official added that 28,531 people have already been discharged (1,004 on Sunday), which represents 36.7% of the total infected.

On the other hand, Costa highlighted the increase in tests carried out throughout the country, with 406,210 in total and 6,756 during Sunday. With these figures, the country reached 8,951 tests for every million inhabitants.
