Severe floods and landslides continue to ravage the island of Kyushu in southwest Japan. Rescuers continue their race against the clock when the weather has already killed 50 people. The 80,000 people deployed to save stranded residents.
Since last week, rivers have swept bridges and made roads impassable, forcing rescuers to intervene by canoe or helicopter only. Fourteen people are still missing and fourteen residents of a retirement home have died.
The heavy rains should persist in the coming days in this particularly violent rainy season, reinforced by global warming.
