Two-time snowboard world champion Alex Pullin died in Australia while spearfishing spearfishing. Pullin, who - as the BBC website points out - was 32 years old and was born in Mansfield in the Australian state of Victoria, died near a beach on the Gold Coast of Queensland in the north of the country.
Pullin was nicknamed "Chumpy" and had been the standard bearer of Australia at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. He had also represented his country in the snowboard cross discipline at the 2010 and 2018 Olympics.

Pullin would have been found unconscious underwater by a diver who was diving and would then be brought to shore by lifeguards. The paramedics then intervened in an attempt to revive him but without success.
