Bac 2020: 95.7%… a record success rate after catching up

2020-07-12T07:29:33.716Z

After catching up, the success rate in the baccalaureate is 95.7% across all sectors, or 7.6 points more than in 2019, announced

Never seen. The Ministry of National Education has just confirmed this Saturday, the results of the Bac "Covid" as many students call it, are indeed exceptional. Almost 96% of the 745,900 baccalaureate 2020 candidates were received at the end of the first remedial session.

In detail, 98.4% of high school students in general studies have obtained their baccalaureate (compared to 91.2 in 2019). For technological baccalaureates, the number of graduates reaches 95.7% (compared to 88.1%). Finally, 90.7% of candidates for professional baccalaureate degrees obtained their diploma (against 82.3%).

At least since 1995 there have never been so many candidates to obtain the baccalaureate at the end of the catch-up tests. The final results will be known in September.

"A spirit of benevolence"

With 7.6 points more than in 2019, the harmonization juries, responsible for raising student marks if they deemed it necessary, therefore played their role to the full. The pupils who had the bac on the first try were 91.5%, already an absolute record for this exceptional session. The previous record dated from 2016 with a final success rate of 88.6%.

As a direct result, far fewer young people did not show up in high schools on Thursday and Friday to take the remedial oral exams, which usually allow a significant number of students (around 10%) to graduate on the wire.

Because of the health crisis, the bac was held this year without exams but on the sole basis of continuous assessment - that is to say the averages of the marks obtained by the pupils in the 1st and 2nd trimesters of Terminale. To prevent any student from being penalized by the closure of all schools in mid-March and the absence of a final exam, the ministry had called for a "spirit of benevolence".

With this record number of bachelors, the question arises of enrollment in higher education. "There is personalized work with each student, what are called rectorial commissions," said Jean-Michel Blanquer on Friday. "We keep with (the Minister of Higher Education) Frédérique Vidal the objective that everyone finds a solution".
