Coronavirus: Tokyo, 206 cases in the past 24 hours

The Tokyo metropolitan government has reported another 206 coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, a number similar to yesterday, and for the fourth consecutive day above 200. (ANSA)


(ANSA) - TOKYO, JULY 12 - The Tokyo metropolitan government has communicated another 206 cases of coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, a number similar to that of yesterday, and for the fourth consecutive day above the 200 mark. Thus the signs of a new one are accentuated Covid-19 wave after the definitive withdrawal of the state of emergency in late May.
    With a population of over 14 million, excluding the metropolitan area, Tokyo has recorded about a third of Covid-19 cases nationwide, at 7,927. Despite the progressive rise of infections, national authorities report, none of the infected patients show severe symptoms, and approximately 80% of them are under 30 years of age.
    Many of the infections continue to occur in the red-light district of the capital, in the Kabukicho district, with the formation of several outbreaks and a still low traceability index.
    Furthermore, according to the latest statistics, the infections begin to expand also in the adjacent prefectures, with the region of Kanagawa south of the capital which has registered 34 cases, the highest daily level since the 25th of May. (ANSA).
