Greece yesterday recorded a daily record of infections since April - when 60 new Corona patients were diagnosed with 40 cases being tourists who arrived in the country.

The Greek Minister of Health announced the dramatic rise in the last day, a record that has not been seen since April when the epidemic was at its peak. Which resulted in a total of 3,732 corona positive cases in the country. However, no deaths were recorded following the virus and the number of deaths remained at 193.

The increase in cases prompted authorities to declare a rigorous screening scheme for tourists at state borders on Friday (as well as increased enforcement in businesses where there is a high concentration of people). It has also been claimed that tourists coming from Bulgaria will be required to provide proof that they have been tested and found to be negative for the virus, following many positive cases in the Balkan countries.

The government spokesman said that anyone entering Bulgaria for non-essential reasons would have to provide a negative check about 72 hours before entering. This decision was made after Bulgaria experienced a surge in the number of Corona patients, which peaked at 240 patients in the past day. In addition, Romania and Serbia have also reached new highs that have not been seen since the end of April.

Greek authorities are already tackling a number of cases of Corona in many resorts, after regional airports opened for international flights in early July. In the town of Adpisos, a resort area located on the island of Evia, tests have already been made to 90 Serbian tourists staying near verified patients and the area has been declared under a new outbreak of the Corona.

The head of the microbiology department at the University of Athens, Athosos Tsukris, argues that the loosening of restrictions is what caused the significant surge in the first wave and so Greece may experience further growth in the number of positive cases for Corona.

As I recall, Greece opened its doors to tourists on July 1 and is again facing a general closure. Since the border opened, about 100 positive tourists have been found in the Corona virus. Greek authorities are again considering re-enforcing the strict restrictions starting next week, because they claim that tourists in the country ignore most of the Ministry of Health's guidelines and do not adhere to hygiene rules, keeping distance and wearing masks. Israelis cannot enter Greece by any means, even if they present a negative corona test.
