(ANSA) - BAMAKO, JUL 12 - The influential imam Mahmoud Dicko, leader of the opposition in Mali, launched an appeal to the aftermath after two days of violent protests against President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, which resulted in at least 8 deaths among Bivako civilians .
"Don't provoke anyone, don't attack anyone," he said in a video posted on social media. "I will speak this afternoon, but before then, please be calm, do not set fires in the city and in petrol stations," said protesters.
Four civilians, including two children aged 15 and 17, were killed yesterday during protests against President IbrahimBoubacar Keita. The clashes between demonstrators and security forces have been particularly severe around the mosque where Imam Mahmoud Dicko preaches. His coalition, which also includes politicians and civil society, calls for the resignation of the head of state, accused of inadequacy in leading a country hit by the economic crisis and jihadist violence.
