In Piru Lake, where Naya Rivera disappeared and died, various drowning have been recorded due to the dangerous conditions of the place.

The disappearance of actress Naya Rivera , who went for a walk with her son to Lake Piru, in California, shook the world of entertainment.

Although the minor was safely located on July 8, on Monday the 13th of this month, authorities revealed that they found the lifeless body of the celebrity who participated in the "Glee" series.

From the first day that the alarms for Rivera's disappearance sounded, little by little more details of the case were revealed, one of them being the records of drowning in the same lake in recent years.

And, according to police reports released by the Los Angeles Times , this place is known for drowning due to dangerous conditions, since cold temperatures can overwhelm swimmers, as well as strong winds, which are powerful enough to capsize a small boat.

Although Piru Lake is an incredibly popular destination for Los Angeles residents, it doesn't seem like the safest place for outdoor recreation. According to the aforementioned media, around seven people drowned in the lake between 1994 and 2000.

Douglas West , a former manager of Piru Lake parks and recreation services, revealed to the newspaper that there were nearly a dozen drowning during the 23 years he worked there.

According to the interviewee, most were inexperienced swimmers who did not wear life jackets, and were too sure of their ability to navigate in restricted areas of the waters.

"The only thing I can emphasize is that if swimmers are near water, they should use a personal flotation device, whether they know how to swim or not," West said. "That will save their lives."

For his part, Ranger Tim Polk told the Los Angeles Times that lifeguards patrol a swimming area in the lake three days a week, but many of the problems occur outside of this small area.

In this regard, Chris Dyer of the Ventura County Sheriff's Office said Thursday that Naya Rivera had previously been to the lake, although her ability to swim is unknown.

In addition, he added that the actress left her life jacket on the rented boat, which was recovered with the son of speed on board.

Chris commented that the "dangerous conditions" in the lake force the recovery work to be suspended at night, as there are large trees and underwater debris, as well as variable depths.

"During the day there is visibility of 8 to 10 inches, the depth of the water ranges from 3 to 4 feet and up to 50 feet. There are many uneven terrains under water that you do not see," said Dyer.

Helicopters, diving teams, ATVs and boats that cruise the lake are involved in the recovery efforts, while authorities closed the site to the public to assist in the efforts.
