At the beginning of the week, the "Israel Today" project was uploaded to the "Today" website and here it remains "in memory of Meir Ariel, who will turn 21 on July 18. In collaboration with BPM College and the Anana company, new performances of Ariel's songs are performed daily. Today the song "Sarah would have loved it" performed by Alon Adar and a band.

• For all the songs in the "And Here You Stay" project

The song was written in memory of Charela Hagai, who was a friend of Ariel from the kibbutz and a literature teacher. She died at the age of 41 of cancer. The song was released in 1988 as part of the album "Green".

Alon Adar's father, Yehuda Adar, was a partner in Meir Ariel's work. It started when a herd musically produced Ariel's second album, "Open-Eyed", released in 1984. "In 1983, Meir called me to come and work with him, and we haven't parted since," says Yehuda. "Meir invented a language that has all the languages he could speak: the language of a kibbutz, the army, poetry and the sources. He managed to connect his favorite worlds into his own unique and original language. It is a multicultural language influenced by Alterman, full of Goldberg, Bob Dylan, Jewish sources With the Talmudic chatter - all the languages he got to speak and love. "

Always talking about his lyrics but he was also an excellent composer.

"Meir was gifted with tremendous talent. His language was so rich that it overshadowed the rich melodies he wrote, but one should know that his music is at a very high level. Including the very long songs he wrote mostly in his infancy. He was like a spring flowing from all streams everywhere. "There are very few artists who can be said to be 'original'. Meir is one of the few."

Yehuda Adar's shared work experience with Meir Ariel lasted 16 years. The highlight of this work was "Meir Ariel's campaign", the tour that Ariel went on in October 1987, with Yehuda Adar, Miki Shaviv, Yoav Kutner and Re'a Mochich. The tour, in the style of the US tour, ranges from Kiryat Shmona to Eilat, and was even documented in Ido Sela's film "Meir Ariel's campaign."

"The election campaign was born out of a half-joke, but as always, it was an experience to be by Meir's side," says Ader. "I can not separate the artistic work with him and friendships with him. It is intertwined. At all Sukkot we were hosted in his Sukkah, and our families were connected to each other."

Ader (68) was born in Kibbutz Kfar Hanassi, served in the Nahal band, studied at Berkeley College in Boston, was the guitarist of the mythological "Tammuz" band and is the founder of the "Rimon" music school and its president today. Over the years he has produced many albums Artzi, Ronit Shachar, Ariel Horowitz, Prototype, Monica Sex and others, but Meir Ariel for his part has only one.

"Working with Meir is something I take with me for life," he says. "Meir was unable to bring an audience to his performances. Barely 50 people per performance. He died in abject poverty. And yet he was one of the wonders of Israeli culture and music. He became an icon."
