This year, 95.7% of high school graduates, and me and me and me… With 7.6 points more than in 2019, the exceptional success rate of the bac 2020, turned upside down by the health crisis of Covid-19, is a challenge for higher education, which sees a wave of aspiring students sweeping through its door, through the Parcoursup platform. At the risk of flooding the university benches, after years of increase in their numbers? No, reassures Jérôme Teillard, "Mr. Parcoursup" at the Ministry of Higher Education and Research.
Will there be enough places in higher education for all new graduates?
JÉRÔME TEILLARD. These high school students, we don't discover them. They are already on the Parcoursup platform, which has made proposals to more than eight out of ten high school students. Most of the graduates are enrolling in their establishments for the start of the school year. Others still have vows pending: for them, the main phase ends (July 17, note) . Finally, there is a category for which candidates do not yet have a proposal.
This year, fewer baccalaureate graduates will exit the system. Is there not a risk of engorgement?
This year, the complementary phase of Parcoursup opened much earlier, on July 2, to give candidates time to find places. In 2019, 82,000 people received a proposal as part of the complementary phase. We still have room. Rectoral commissions are currently helping the high school students who request it - they are today 6700. And, since July 8, we call all the high school students without solution to make a point.
Are you going to ask higher education establishments to push the walls?

We started this work. We have just created an additional 3000 BTS places, and the rectors are working with universities to see where to create places. We also take into account the probable case of a better success rate in the first year of the license: places will become available, because there will be fewer repeaters than last year.
What are the supply chains?
There is a strong attractiveness of the sanitary field as well as the right and AES (economic and social administration) sectors. But the pressure varies from one territory to another. For some young people, the solution may be to follow their studies in another territory. This is the reason for the mobility aid, amounting to 500 euros.
Will there be more young people who have to move for their studies?
Last year, we registered 10,000 requests for mobility assistance. We will see what it is this year. In any case, we make it a lever to help candidates find the proposal that suits them.
Are you worried about the educational level of the young people who will be arriving in higher education?
There will be in universities, but also in engineering schools or even the prep classes, a phase to put everyone in balance after a disrupted 3rd quarter. When you haven't been to high school for three months, there are a few things you need to start over.
Do you anticipate a massive failure at the end of the first year of the license next year?
I think that all higher education establishments are mobilized so that we do not go towards a massive failure. This is not the goal. Students will be the subject of a form of benevolence and support.
