(ANSA) - GENOA, JULY 14 - New sightings of marinealiene species in the Ligurian and Tyrrhenian Sea. They were registered in the waters of La Spezia and Isola di Pianosa and made known by the ISA2 Institute of La Spezia, promoter of the "Paths in the Blue" Project. "The increase in maritime, mercantile, nautical traffic, as well as the presence of floating plastics and the warming of the sea are the main responsible for the spread of alien marine species in the Mediterranean" explains Erika Mioni, head of the biological Coastal Monitoring science initiatives. Among the new guests, the tropical Percnon gibbesi crab, seen in the Pianosa seabed, the Nudibranch Okeniazoobotryon and Policerahedgpethi molluscs, in the waters of the Fezzano marina (Portovenere), and the Nudibranch Okenia zoobotryon mollusk, first reported in the Western Mediterranean.

The project involves 1500 people including students, divers, teachers. Since 2011 it has been promoting a structured surveillance plan in a network of schools, administrations, parks, university associations. (HANDLE).
