When we look at the employment of women, studies follow one another and look alike. In October 2019, INSEE released a note stating that the arrival of a child had a downward impact of around 25% on their salary.

More recently, the statistical institute indicated in another survey that family responsibilities have an influence on the overall activity rate of women. Once they have children, women work less often. In 2018, 84% of those without family responsibility were working, compared to only 76% of those with children. Being a parent, on the other hand, produces the opposite effect for men, whose activity rate goes from 82% for those who do not have it to 91% for fathers of families.

Among women, this observation holds true whatever the socio-professional category, even if the difference is more marked for workers: only 54% of mothers work against 74% of women without children. The women
