- PM Breaking News (@PMBreakingNews) July 18, 2020 The Gothic cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul of Nantes, which has already suffered serious damage from the bombings of 1944 and a roof fire in 1972, was completed only in 1891, after 457 years of work. The factory was in fact started in 1434 by the Duke of Brittany John V in the 'flamboyant' Gothic style in vogue then.
Since 1862 the cathedral of the town on the Loire has been declared a historical monument by the French government. Its central nave is several meters higher than that of Notre-Dame de Paris, devastated two and a half years ago by a fire.
