Manuel: Appeal sentencing reduced to 14 years and 8 months

The Court of Appeal of Rome reduced the sentence for the authors of the injury of the swimmer Manuel Bortuzzo in Rome in February 2019 to 14 years and 8 months in prison. At first instance Lorenzo Marinelli and Daniel Bazzano had been sentenced to 16 years. (HANDLE)


(ANSA) - ROME, JULY 23 - The Court of Appeal of Rome sentenced to 14 years and 8 months' imprisonment the penalty for the authors of the referral of the swimmer Manuel Bortuzzo which took place in Rome in February 2019. At first instance Lorenzo Marinelli and DanielBazzano had been sentenced to 16 years. The judges dropped the charge of attempted murder against Bortuzzo's girlfriend, Martina Rossi. The athlete, caught by a shot from the post in the back, was paralyzed in the legs.
   The incident occurred on the night between 2 and 3 February of the annoscorso. The two are accused of attempted double murder and immediate harbor, possession and receiving of firearms.
   The two had been tried with abbreviated rites in October last year. "I have heard Manuel and his family who have serenely accepted the judges' decision, without any controversy. For my part, it is a sentence that I do not agree with, I await reading the reasons. We must understand why the accusation of attempted murder against the fiancée has fallen Manuel, "said lawyer Massimo Ciardullo, a lawyer for the swimmer injured in February last year, commenting on the decision of the judges of the Court of Appeal of Rome.
