WWF warns of the very worrying state of Flucker, a fin whale from the Pelagos Sanctuary in the Mediterranean well known to observers for 25 years and easily recognizable by its half-amputated tail, the result of an unfortunate encounter with humans. Less than a year ago, a second accident permanently amputated the rest of his tail. It is likely that an abandoned fishing gear (nets, lines called "ghost nets") is responsible.
Impossible to feed
Deprived of his means of propulsion, Flucker can no longer dive. However, whales have the particularity of feeding on small shrimp, krill, at great depths. No longer able to feed himself, Flucker has been drawing on his reserves for months and his condition is deteriorating day by day. This summer during a sea trip of the Blue Panda, the WWF boat, the WWF teams accompanied by the photographer Alexis Rosenfeld witnessed the distress of the mammal, emaciated and weakened.
