(ANSA) - ISTANBUL, JULY 28 - Turkey will suspend energy explorations launched last week in the southeastern Aegean Sea "in a contested area with Athens off the Greek island of Kastellorizo" for some time. Ibrahim Kalin, spokesman for President RecepTayyip Erdogan, said this to Turkish CNN. "Our president said: 'As the negotiations continue, we are constructive," said Kalin, assuring that Ankara is ready to "argue with Greece without conditions."
"Greece is an important neighbor of ours," added Erdogan's spokesman, hoping that "joint activities will also take place in disputed areas".
Stressing that the German Chancellor Angela "Merkel had a constructive role" in the de-escalation with Athens, Kalinha however claimed that in the Aegean it has not really come "on the brink of war as claimed by the German press".
"We resolve our bilateral issues" with Greece "bilaterally. We cannot achieve results by using the fact that we are a member of the EU as a means of pressure", continued Kalin, referring also to the threat of sanctions in Ankara received by French President EmmanuelMacron . (HANDLE).
