On the day that the extension of the quarantine in the Metropolitan Area was confirmed, the Ministry of Health of the Nation confirmed this Friday 102 deaths and 5,929 new cases of coronavirus in the country.

In the morning, before the announcement of President Alberto Fernández in Olivos, the health portfolio had reported the death of 25 people (13 men and 12 women), of whom ten had residence in the province of Buenos Aires, thirteen in the City, one in Río Negro and one in Santa Cruz.

The death rate is 76 people per million inhabitants and the average age of fatalities is 75 years.

According to official information, on Thursday, 16,685 new samples were made and since the start of the outbreak, 707,508 diagnostic tests were carried out for this disease, which is equivalent to 15,591.9 samples per million inhabitants.

The positivity index, which measures the number of cases found on tests performed, averaged 43.4% in the country, 35.3% in the City and 52.1% in the Province of Buenos Aires.

In turn, they indicated that the median age of those infected is 40 years and 7.3% of cases are health workers.

When heading the report issued by the health authority to account for the epidemiological situation, the Secretary of Access to Health, Carla Vizzotti , pointed out that the proportional drop in new cases reported from the AMBA (went from 95% to 87% in the last days) is due to the greater contribution of positives from jurisdictions such as Jujuy and Córdoba.

On the other hand, the official stressed that the social effort made by Argentines has served to expand the health system and that this results in an adequate response capacity and a "relatively low" mortality compared to other places in America and the world.

"(The effort) has been important for the health system to continue expanding, to increase therapy beds, respirators, human resources and all the instruments needed to care for a person by 40%" in critical care he added.

Additionally, he estimated that this time served to establish new modular hospitals, so that personal protection elements could be manufactured in the country and so that researchers could develop various diagnostic tests and study alternatives for the treatment of the disease.

On this last point, he recalled that on July 24 ANMAT approved a clinical trial on a hyperimmune serum that is made by injecting a coronavirus protein into horses, which generate "neutralizing antibodies" to the disease.

"This neutralization has been certified in Malbrán and if we can demonstrate that it has a positive impact in reducing the spread (of Covid-19) in the human body, it will be an important tool," said Vizzotti.

For this reason, he stressed that "every day that the response health system is achieved, is a day given to science."
