Fanned by the wind, fed by the drought and the heat, the fire which attacked the forest of Chiberta, in the center of Anglet, has consumed 100 hectares of pine forest since Thursday evening, and affected a total of 165 hectares by counting the more or less affected urban areas around.
Eleven houses were affected by the fire, five of which are now uninhabitable. Sixteen people were poisoned without gravity by the smoke, according to the latest report from the prefecture of Pyrénées-Atlantiques. These are six residents, five police officers and a firefighter.
During the night from Thursday to Friday, operations mobilized some 150 firefighters and 50 motorized vehicles, as well as 60 police officers and Samu personnel, according to the prefecture.
