Singer Noa Kirl in an interview with the Washington Post about conscription into the IDF:"Because I'm famous I have to serve and set an example."

Kirl, the most famous soldier in the IDF, enlisted in the army about six months ago for a talent track - which until her enlistment did not exist - which allows her, her partner the singer Yonatan Margie, and other stars on their scale to continue successful careers while serving in the military.

Kiral's enlistment in the IDF last February has been widely covered in the media. Since then, as expected and almost inevitably, she has found herself starring in headlines.

It began with the extensive coverage that accompanied her enlistment day, continued with the military dancers scandal - which eventually led to the abolition of the military dancers standard after a performance by Kiral in Tzrifin that won a wave of reviews - and culminated in the "Yes Plus" commercial in which she played a U.S. Army soldier during the war Vietnam.

"It's not easy," Kirl told Washington Post reporter Ruth Eglesch in an interview last weekend, "but there's something very authentic about it."

In the article, Eglesh quoted a senior military official as saying that "the army has always recruited soldiers from all backgrounds and with all kinds of talents and needs." The same source admitted that "recruiting a female soldier like Noa is a challenge. Our goal is to recruit everyone and find them the place where they can best serve."

Eglesh spoke in the article about other Slavs who enlisted when they were already famous, such as Gal Gadot who already held the crown of beauty when she joined the IDF, and even mentioned the comparison made by Billboard magazine between Kiral's enlistment and that of Elvis Presley, who also enlisted in active military service. .

Although she could have been exempted from service due to the fact that she had only one kidney, for Kiral there was no question regarding recruitment. Agles noted in the article that for the Atlantic music label that signed Kirl to a historic contract, the decision was less obvious, and it was necessary to explain to them why she is now joining the military, for two years of service, when she is at the peak of her career.

"I felt that because I was famous I needed to serve and set an example for others," Kirl said in an interview. "I know people abroad probably won't understand me, why am I actually putting things on hold for two years now, but it was clear to me that I should have done it."

She added: "Obviously I perform in smaller venues and in front of much smaller audiences than I'm used to, but I'm there with all the soldiers and we all wear the same uniform. It's very significant to me."

Kirl's agent, Roberto Ben-Shoshan, said: "The fact that Noa has to divide her time between military service and her professional commitments definitely affects her career, but she is doing something that is very important to her."
