Summer 2020 was already marked by an average of more than 3 violent hailstorms per day on the national territory where there are also storms, tornadoes and water bombs confirming the ongoing climate changes that manifest themselves with the multiplication extreme events. This is what emerges from a processing by Coldiretti on data from the European Severe Weather Database (ESWD) in reference to the wave of bad weather that hit Italy in a leopard spot, after the great heat. Signs of "a tendency to tropicalization" of the climate also in Italy, also underlining the fire emergency .

The situation is still serious for bonfires in L'Aquila , where from Thursday hundreds of hectares of woods between the area between Arischia (inside the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park) and Pettino, district of the regional capital, are burning for malicious fires. There are 8 active aircrafts, including 4 canadairs, and dozens of men on the field.

"To reconstitute the forests reduced to ash by fire it will take up to 15 years with damage to the environment, economy, work and tourism", estimates Coldiretti on the effects of fires that broke out in Italy, in particular in L'Aquila and in Sicily where unfortunately there is also a victim . In fact, the death of Paolo Todaro, a precarious forest worker of 67 years who died yesterday in San Filippo Superiore in the Messina area, after falling into a cliff while trying to put out a fire, arouses indignation and emotion.

Another fire broke out in a wooded area in the Molini hamlet, in the Capanne di Marcarolo area. "If certainly the flaring of the flames is favored by the anomalous climate, to worry - continues Coldiretti - it is precisely the action of the arsonists with 60% of the fires that is estimated to be caused voluntarily".

But to scourge summer 2020 there are not only heat and fires. After the yellow alert Sunday for thunderstorms and associated hydrogeological risk over the whole of Emilia-Romagna , on Monday in the region there is also an orange criticality due to bad weather.

A wave of bad weather has already struck in the province of Alessandria . Rain, hail and strong gusts of wind (95.4 km / h in Alessandria) caused damage and inconvenience. Some websites specialized in meteorology speak of 'downburst' , the gust of wind that rages with descending motion coming out of the advancing front of a thunderstorm.

Damage from bad weather, rain and strong wind also in the province of Modena . And in the South a violent hailstorm also fell on Taranto causing, according to what Coldiretti Puglia has verified, "serious damage to orchards, vineyards and watermelon and melon fields in Ginosa and Castellaneta".

Coldiretti then insists on bad weather especially in relation to damage to the fields . "From north to south of the country violent thunderstorms occurred with heavy damage to agriculture such as in Campania in Sannio and Irpinia where hailstones as big as ping pong balls fell in some areas of the territory without leaving escape to olive groves, vegetables in open field, orchards, vineyards and tobacco according to the monitoring of Coldiretti ".

Hail is precisely the most feared in this seasonal phase, explains Coldiretti "for the irreversible damage it causes to crops in the fields where summer fruit is in full harvest and the harvest is about to begin with the risk of losing an entire year of work ".
