Three ways to collaborate against covid-19

2020-08-02T00:49:22.587Z

Entering the new normal does not mean that we are beginning to overcome the pandemic, as there are still many people and organizations that need all the help they can get. This is how you can be part of the heroes of this return

The confinement and unemployment in many of the economic activities exponentially increased the need for support from some initiatives that only seek to help those who need it most.

Would you like to be part of this effort? It is not essential to contribute money (although of course, financial contributions are always the best way to collaborate), you can also give away something you have at home or give part of your time. The idea is to give a boost to real-life superheroes.

1. Don't waste food and, if possible, donate

The data is really sad: a third of the food produced in Mexico is wasted, which is equivalent to 38 tons of food per minute that could feed 25.5 million people living in food deprivation.

The information is from Food Banks Mexico, a non-profit civil society organization made up of 55 banks, which rescue food throughout the entire value chain to take it to families, communities and institutions that need it and thus improve food and nutrition in Mexico.

It goes without saying how much the situation has been complicated for those who are in a state of food vulnerability, so your contribution can make a difference, you can do it in three ways: in cash (you can donate from 100 pesos and you also have the option of deciding which food group you want your help to go to: animal protein, dairy products, cereals, vegetables ...), in kind (take food directly) or as a volunteer (share some of your free time in causes like this will present you new points of view that you had never contemplated).

2 Bring hope to a sick person and his family

Por un Hogar is a civil non-profit organization that, in its words, visits public hospitals providing emotional support to the patient and their family to bring them to emotional and physical stability in the face of illness.

Although their first field of action are the hospitals of Mexico City (where they pass, bed by bed, with the sick to listen to their needs and those of those who accompany them), Por un Hogar also has a shelter for patients and relatives who come from other entities of the Mexican Republic, a place where, in addition to lodging, they offer free breakfasts and meals.

Due to the health crisis we are experiencing, the work of this institution has multiplied and, most regrettably, the scenes of family members of patients sleeping outside hospitals as well.

With only 200 pesos you can help with food for a patient for a week and with 100 pesos you would be providing a night of accommodation for these people who are struggling to cope with this very adverse situation.

3. Cooperate for a healthy and happy childhood

The United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) launched a special plan for covid-19 in Mexico in late March. The intention is to support in preventing the risk of contagion, strengthen the educational system and provide psycho-emotional support to Mexican children and adolescents.

An example of the actions that Unicef has carried out is the distribution of informative material to prevent covid-19 and hygiene kits that include antibacterial soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, laundry detergent, sanitary napkins and toilet paper in 29 shelters for Mexican and foreign migrant population in the northern and southern borders of our country.

The covid-19 plan Unicef Mexico also contemplates the provision of hygiene supplies for when schools return to activities and the dissemination of audiovisual material on positive parenting and violence prevention, among other actions.

Contributions can be made on a monthly basis (for amounts of 250, 300 or 500 pesos) or uniquely (500, 800 and 1,200 pesos) on the special page that Unicef designed for this purpose.
