(ANSA) - PARIS, AUGUST 03 - Mandatory mask to start from today in the most popular areas of Biarritz, the famous seaside resort overlooking the Atlantic in the French Paesibaschi: the announcement had come in recent days by the mayor Maider Arostéguy, in a context in which the massive arrival of tourists fears a resurgence of the coronavirus.
In the European surfer's paradise the use of the mask will be mandatory until the end of August in some areas of the center, in particular, the hyper-tourist area around the Hotel du Palais, the old port area (Port-Vieux). Also, from tomorrow, the 'Grande Plage', the large beach of Biarritz where many young people use to spend the summer evenings, will be closed from 22:00 to 6:00 in the morning.
The municipality does not exclude the temporary closure of the beaches even during the day, in case the high tide should limit the space available on the sand.
Biarritz is not the only French municipality to impose the use of the mask in some streets or open spaces. Similar arrangements have been made in many other cities, including Lille, Nice, Orléans, Dax, Saint-Malo, and 69 municipalities of Mayenne. (ANSA).
