Coronavirus: over 18 million infections in the world

The toll of coronavirus cases in India has crossed the 1.8 million mark. More than 94 thousand dead in Brazil (ANSA)


The number of coronavirus cases registered worldwide has exceeded 18 million, according to official data found by AFP. Over half of the 18,011,763 cases registered to date have been in the United States and Latin America and the Caribbean. The United States is the most affected country in the world with 4,657,693 cases, of which 154,793 died, followed by Brazil with 2,733,677 infections and 94,104 deaths. The third most affected country is India, with 1,750,723 cases and 37,364 deaths.

The number of coronavirus deaths in Brazil has exceeded the 94,000 threshold : this is what emerges from the counts of Johns Hopkins University.
    In the last 24 hours, 541 additional deaths have been recorded in the country, a figure that has brought the death toll since the beginning of the pandemic to 94,104. At the same time, the total number of infections rose to 2,733,677, of which 25,800 in the last 24 hours. Yesterday the number of deaths caused by the virus in Latin America exceeded 200,000.   

The United States registered another 47,508 infections and 515 coronavirus deaths in 24 hours yesterday , according to the Johns Hopkins University count. The toll is slightly down on the previous five days, which had registered over 60,000 new infections. The country most affected by the pandemic in the world, the USA now has a total of about 4.66 million cases and almost 155 thousand deaths. 

Argentina has crossed the threshold of 200,000 coronavirus infections : in its daily report, the Ministry of Health has reported that the cases have reached 201,919, including 3,648 deaths. In the past 24 hours 52 patients have died in the country who were hospitalized in intensive care units in hospitals. For her part, Undersecretary Carla Vizzotti has made it known that to try to stem the progression of the pandemic, social meetings will be prohibited today and for 15 days throughout the country. After reiterating that Buenos Aires and its suburbs are the area most affected by Covid-19 with over 90% of cases, Vizzotti has recommended that "if anyone wants to meet with his friends, especially in areas where this is possible, it is I'd better do it not in an indoor apartment and maybe without a mask, but in an open space, for no more than 15-20 minutes ".

The balance of coronavirus cases in India has exceeded the 1.8 million threshold : this is what emerges from the accounts of Johns Hopkins University. In the last 24 hours 52,972 new infections have been recorded, a figure that brings the total since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,803,695. At the same time, the death toll rose to 38,135. Last week, India recorded a record number of coronavirus deaths (over 5,300) and 315,000 new cases. India is the third country in the world by number of cases after the United States and Brazil.
