ROME - With the hot temperatures, the Italians rediscover the pleasure of eating fish, molluscs and fresh crustaceans, leaving behind frozen and tuna cans of the times of the lockdown. Now with the restaurants open and the desire for a holiday, local fish returns to the table, keeping in mind that storing in ice at 0 ° C does not alter the composition of the products for up to 7 days. This was announced by ANSA Fedagripesca-Confcooperative, highlighting a positive trend in consumption which gives us hope after the crisis of the past few months. Purchases, in fact, mark an average increase of 30% compared to the quarantine period, with peaks of 50% in seaside resorts close to large cities. But, according to Fedagripesca, more fish are eaten even compared to the same period last year, as in Chioggia where the local fish market marks + 4% compared to 2019. As proof of a more lively market, prices are returning to typical levels of the summer period. In these days in some markets of the Lazio coast the squid have been sold at 25 euros per kilo, bream caught at 28 euros and clams at 15 euros.

A lot of fish on the table because 3 out of 4 Italians according to Fedagripesca, know that it helps to guarantee proteins, vitamins and mineral salts essential when the mercury column rises. But pay attention to knowing how to keep it in order not to take risks. In this regard, it is good to put the product just purchased in the thermal bags with ice and go immediately to the house where it is necessary to eviscerate it, wash it carefully and keep it in the refrigerator in a closed container and eat it within 24 hours. For crustaceans and molluscs, which change in a very short time, it is good to put them in the coldest compartment of the fridge and consume them on the same day. Fish that can be frozen as long as it is very fresh.
