The general secretary of Suteba, Roberto Baradel, warned this Tuesday that "it will be a complication" to return to teach face-to-face classes in schools in the Province of Buenos Aires until a coronavirus vaccine is found.

" Today the conditions are not given to return. The main concern has to be to continue taking care of life. The return to face-to-face implies a very important mobilization of people that would be contradictory to the measures being taken," he explained.

In dialogue with radio El Destape , the teacher unionist said that Argentina "is in a situation where the main concern has to be the contagion curve."

"If not, the health system may collapse and we would be in a very complex situation, like the one experienced by European countries, Brazil, the United States or Ecuador, where doctors had to decide who to save and who to let die. That is the first thing to take into account, "he said.

Along these lines, Baradel stated that the school infrastructure not only in Buenos Aires territory but throughout the country  is not prepared to comply with the social distancing protocols that were required in other provinces for the return of children to classrooms.

" Until the vaccine is found, it is going to be a complication. Hopefully soon we will have the vaccine, because if you have to carry out the attendance again, it will be with many restrictions so that it does not imply the spread of the infections," he added. .

On the other hand, the teaching leader defended the government's health strategy and argued that Argentina "must be one of the few countries that established the prohibition of layoffs and generated a deployment of very important measures to face the pandemic, such as the IFE and the employment assistance program. "

San Juan, Catamarca and Santiago del Estero could soon become the first provinces where face-to-face classes return. As confirmed on Monday by the Minister of Education, Nicolás Trotta, they would start on August 10 and 18, with special protocols.
