The Corona Committee in the Knesset is currently discussing (Tuesday morning) whether to "open the sky" in Israel and formulate an outline for operating Ben Gurion Airport for outbound and inbound flights. The discussion is attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Health, members of the tourism and aviation industry and members of the Knesset.

The committee's chairman, MK Yifat Shasha Bitton, who is chairing the debate, clarified that his goal is to find an effective and quick solution to open the skies to normal activity that will allow workers in the tourism and aviation industry to return to activity after half a year of almost complete freeze.

The discussion focuses on the corona inspections at Ben Gurion Airport before takeoff and after landing, entry into green countries and the state of Israel, which is defined as a red state. Dr. Ashi Shalmon, who represents the Ministry of Health, commented on the numbers and explained that until we reach an average of about 90 infected per day, we will be defined as a red state. The Ministry of Health opposes allowing corona tests at Ben Gurion Airport, while professionals including tourism and aviation The Knesset supports the establishment of such a system of tests - similar to the one that exists at many airports around the world.

More on the subject:

• With shortened insulation: an outline for opening the sky

• Further postponement of the "opening of the sky"

• Jordan also opens the sky: this is how it will work

• Approaching a system of tests at Ben Gurion Airport

Dr. Shalmon explained: “Our database is getting worse, and our morbidity is ten times the threshold of a green state. We have a long way to go. We do not invent definitions for Israel, but because of the definitions of the European Union we cannot currently enter the countries of the Union. We are formulating an outline for the entry of tourists to Israel from green countries, and in the nearby Corona cabinet, an outline for Israelis' travel will be presented. The entry of Israelis from red states into Israel is only after 14 days of isolation. "

Eitan Ben-David, Deputy Chief of Staff for National Security:" The skies are open and have never been closed, of course - under the rules of the Ministry of Health. The morbidity in Israel is among the highest in the world in relation to the number of inhabitants, and it is defined as a red state. Therefore, most countries in the world do not admit Israelis or require hermetic insulation. "A blue sign has been formulated for the operation of Ben Gurion Airport and the airlines traveling to and from Israel, but due to the illness it has not yet been activated.

Ben-David added: "The proposed layout will allow the Israelis to leave the country green, 10 count of course mutually. Israelis out of these countries and return to - shall not be isolated. Not sure there is a need in the lab at Ben Gurion Airport."

In contrast, said attorney David Sprecher , From the "Overseas Tourism Rescue Headquarters", because "the outline we offer is simple: people fly today with a mask and we offer a PCR test so that the percentage that someone gets infected on a flight tends to zero. The solution should be very light and horizontal with no difference between green and red countries - everyone who flies will do a test 72 hours before takeoff, and everyone who lands in the country will do a corona test. This is a very easy solution to implement. A laboratory was set up in Paris within 24 hours with free tests and fast results. Tests can be done with results between three and five hours. I would like to suggest that at the end of this committee we can hold a professional discussion table to advance this issue. "

Yifat Shasha Bitton responded to Adv. Schafferker's request, "There is no need for a committee, we need to open the sky and find an immediate solution, we are finished with the discussions."

MK Ayelet Shaked, who participated in the hearing, said: We have been a red country for a long time, but precisely because of this fact, an outline must be prepared for the opening: a laboratory test at Ben Gurion Airport that will bring results within three hours, and the passenger will enter at his own expense for isolation. The world is getting used to doing business in the shadow of the corona - zoom is not a substitute for face-to-face meetings, and the current reality is hurting our economy. The risks could also be reduced. "The

discussion also addressed the possibility that many ultra-Orthodox will want to fly to Uman in Ukraine during the Tishrei holidays - through Turkey." There is no law in Ukraine that would prevent 30,000 Israelis from entering the country - because it is economic for them, "explained Health Ministry spokesman "If the Ukrainians want to prevent this - they need to act on their side."
