La Gallinara, a turtle-shaped island off the coast of Albenga and Alassio (Savona), would have been purchased for over 10 million euros by the Ukrainian tycoon Olexandr Boguslayev, 42 years old. The island, owned by the Church until 1842 and subsequently sold to private individuals, belonged to an Srl owned by 9 Ligurian and Piedmontese families. On 17 June the transfer of ownership to a Montecarlo company connected to Boguslayev. La Gallinara is located about 1.5 km from the coast, and is currently a nature reserve.
"I can reassure you that building and other speculations are not allowed considering its naturalistic status - is the comment of the mayor of Albenga Riccardo Tomatis - for the rest the city administration is ready to collaborate for the enhancement of the island in the as part of its care and maintenance, as well as as a cultural tourist attraction, albeit with the appropriate limits and restrictions ".
On the change of ownership the first citizen awaits official communications from the Superintendency: "The strategic importance from a tourist point of view of the Gallinara island for Albenga and the coastal municipalities of the area is so important that I consider it correct to examine all the procedural aspects of the sale" .
