(ANSA) - ROME, AUGUST 04 - With the closed schools there is the risk of a "generational catastrophe". The general secretary of the United Nations Antonio Guterres issued the alarm in a video message published on his Twitter account.
In mid-July, schools were closed to over a billion students in 160 countries, and over 40 million children lost the opportunity to attend nursery and kindergarten. Before the pandemic, Guterres said, there were already "250 million children who were unable to go to school and in developing weights only a quarter of secondary school students had access to basic education".
