(ANSA) - ROME, AUGUST 04 - The Senate Commission of Inquiry on Femicide and Gender Violence unanimously approved today the launch of a fact-finding investigation into female killings registered in 2017-2018, estimated in 227 cases according to data from the institutions and by associations.
The data of the phenomenon - it is explained - are in fact very variable with respect to the reference source and this represents a first problem, to adequately attack the issue.
The purpose of the investigation is to detect, through the analysis of the documents of the preliminary investigations and of the first and second grades of judgment - also with the help of the experts (firstly registered and lawyers) who collaborate with the Commission and who have developed a grid of analysis - the causes that led to the final femicide attributable to the bad functioning of the protection system (judicial, social, of the Territory Networks) of the woman victim of national violence. It is not an investigation - it is emphasized - aimed at seeking individual responsibilities, but analyzing system malfunctions, which can subsequently be corrected above all through sensitization and operator training. In the next few days, requests for transmission will be sent to the presidents of the Courts of Appeal and to the general prosecutors competent for the territory.
"It is the first time - explains the president Valeria Valente to all the Commission - that we investigate to understand what really works in the chain, which unfortunately then too often fails to avoid many feminicides, even after the complaint.
We ask everyone for maximum collaboration because the results, which we hope to present on November 25th on the occasion of the international day against violence against women, can help us avoid many dramatic epilogues ". (HANDLE).
