ROME - Ancona, Arezzo, Arpino, Bari, Carbonia, Castellammare di Stabia, Cerveteri, Fano, Isernia, L'aquila, Modica, Molfetta, Padula, Palma di Montechiaro, Pieve di Soligo, Pisa, Procida, San Severo, Scicli, Taranto , Trani, Trapani, Tropea, Venosa, Erbania, Verona, Vigevano, Volterra There are 28 cities in the running for the title of "Capital of Italian culture" for the year 2022. The Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities announces this and for Tourism, which sent to the president of the Unified Conference the list of cities that completed the candidacy. By 12 October the evaluation commission will define the short list of the 10 finalist cities, the evaluation procedure will end by 12 November 2020.
    "In all its editions, the Capital of culture has triggered virtuous mechanisms between the economic and social realities of the territories. It is not a beauty contest, the city that manages to develop the most engaging, most open, innovative and transversal cultural project is rewarded ". So the Minister of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, Dario Franceschini.
    The title of Italian Capital of Culture is awarded for the duration of one year and the winning city receives one million euros for the realization of the project. Since its inception, the title has been awarded: in 2015, to the cities of Cagliari, Lecce, Perugia, Ravenna and Siena; in 2016, in Mantua; in 2017, in Pistoia, in 2018, in Palermo. Parma is the Italian Capital of Culture for 2020 and 2021, the title has been extended by the Raising Decree which has also proclaimed, in solidarity, Bergamo and Brescia Italian Capitals of Culture for 2023.
