New study: The corona virus, like any virus, must enter a living creature's cell in order to survive and reproduce, and it does so by binding to the ACE2 receptor inside the human body's cells. Understanding the form of attachment and all the factors affected by that receptor, can identify existing drugs that solve or prevent the damage of coronary heart disease in the human body.
This understanding led a team of researchers from the Hebrew University, led by Dr. Yuval Tabach and in collaboration with medical student Maya Brown and computational doctoral student Elad Sharon, to reveal that a number of known drugs can help corona patients. These are 20 existing drugs including aspirin and Viagra.
In a conversation with him, Dr. Tabach explained: "When you want to understand the importance of a garden, you examine the areas that it affects in a person. To do this one has to go back in the evolutionary ladder structure to animals that do not have the gene in question and see how fundamentally they are different from animals that have the gene, and in our case how they are different from man. "Once you identify the difference, you can also identify drugs that specifically treat this whole group of special genes that are specifically related to that gene."
So in the first phase of the study, the researchers tested a series of animals to see if they had the same gene as humans, and later on how they differed from humans genetically and biologically.

Student Maya Brown said of the findings from the study: "We found that most domestic animals and the vast majority of mammals have an ACE2 receptor. That is, they have the potential to be infected with the virus. The most surprising findings in our article are the number of mammals "Seal, beaver, bison and a few other exotic animals."
This examination focused the researchers on all the connections and effects that result in humans from the existence of the gene in general and in particular on the damage that the corona virus can cause in the human body. It has been found that drugs that prevent diabetes or damage to the blood vessels due to diseases such as hypertension and blood lipids, including drugs known as aspirin, help to cope well with the corona virus as well.
Another drug on the list is Viagra (Sildenafil) which was originally developed for the treatment of heart disease due to its ability to dilate blood vessels.
In fact, many of the drugs repair damage that occurs in the walls of blood vessels and thus cause them to dilate, leading to a reduction in inflammatory activity and prevention of complications caused as a result of the spread of the disease in the human body. Recall studies have shown that the health damage of corona patients is caused by inflammation and dysfunction of blood vessels.
One of the drugs that the researchers list is cyclosporine, a drug that is used to treat a number of skin diseases such as psoriasis and eczema, inflammatory bowel disease, and to prevent rejection of transplanted organs. Cyclosporine has been known for several years to have unique antiviral abilities, and experiments in several laboratories have shown that the drug has inhibited the proliferation of corona viruses such as SARS and MERS, which have previously caused severe morbidity.
Clinical studies are currently underway to examine the effect of the drug on the course of the disease in Spain and the US. Currently, a large number of clinical studies around the world are examining over 20 drugs identified in the published list, including Viagra and Aspirin.
