An expensive practice which tends to worsen the health problems of employees and ultimately causes a longer absence.

If we often talk about absenteeism in a company, presenteeism - the fact of coming to work while being ill - is just as problematic. And, in this area, France is not an example either ... 62% of employees in France had at least one day of presenteeism at the last meter reading, against 42% for Union workers European, according to a study by the statistical service of the Ministry of Labor (Dares) published Wednesday.

An expensive practice, since the various studies on the subject show that it tends to worsen the health problems of employees and ultimately causes a longer absence. In detail, the French report an average of 11 sick days a year, 8 of which give rise to absences and 3 which are therefore worked. This propensity for presenteeism, however, varies depending on various factors. The number of days worked despite an illness is, for example, higher among women, 30-39 year olds or managers.

At the sector level, the rate of presenteeism among farmers reaches 42% of sick days, far ahead of that of employees working in the field of services (28%), industry (26%) or construction (22% ). In addition, “employees who report bad relations with their hierarchy, intense work or a feeling of economic insecurity tend to spend at work a greater part of their sick days , explains Dares.
