(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 07 - Susanna Nicchiarelli tells the story of one of Marx's daughters, exactly the younger Eleanor, who for intensity and tragedy does not fear the comparison with that of the bulky father. Already in the trailer for 'Miss Marx', this is the title of the film, which is among the four Italians in the running at the 77th Venice Film Festival and in theaters from 17 September with 01, you can see the strong character of this girl (played by Romola Garai ), ready to fight for women's rights and abolish child labor. Brilliant and passionate, Eleanor (whom they called Tussy in the family) seems to have been Father Marx's favorite (Philip Gröning).
Born in London in 1855, she loved literature, especially Shakespeare, whom she quoted from memory. The theater, however, remained the great passion of Eleanor who had always cultivated the dream of becoming an actress. Among her many engagements also that of translator of some works of Flaubert and of the first version in English of Madame Bovary. His great love was instead Edward Alling (Patrick Kennedy), an activist with a shared political and theatrical passion. «With its apparent inconsistency between the public and private dimension - tells Susanna Nicchiarelli - the story of Eleanor Marx opens up an abyss on the complexity of the human soul, on the fragility of illusions and on the toxicity of certain sentimental relationships.
Telling the life of Eleanor means talking about modern issues that are still revolutionary today, over a century later. At a time when the question of emancipation is more than ever central, the story of Eleanorne outlines all the difficulties and contradictions: contradictions, I believe, more current than ever to try to "grasp" some features of the era we are living in » .
