Sean Connery's last appearance as James Bond: "Never Say Never"
Photo: ddp imagesScottish actor Sean Connery, 89, has been voted the best James Bond actor of all time by British readers of the film and television magazine "Radio Times". The survey, which was designed like a tournament with several rounds, was attended by 14,000 people. The result was announced on Monday.
In the first round, Connery ("Goldfinger") narrowly beat the Englishman and current 007 Daniel Craig ("Skyfall") - 56 percent of the votes went to Connery, 43 percent to Craig. On the other hand, the Irish-born Pierce Brosnan ("GoldenEye") made it into the second round against the Australian George Lazenby ("On Her Majesty's Secret Service"). The Englishman Roger Moore ("Octopussy"), who died in 2017 and who had played the role seven times, was surprisingly kicked out against the Wales-born Timothy Dalton ("The Living Daylights").
In the final, Connery then prevailed with 44 percent of the vote against Dalton (32 percent) and Brosnan (23 percent). The editor-in-chief of "Radio Times" said of the result: "Connery has proven it again, he's the Bond with the Midas touch." An allusion to a line from the title song of the Bond film "Goldfinger" ("He's the man with the midas touch"). The legendary King Midas is said to have turned everything he touched into gold.
