It was only a matter of time, but this series is also getting an update: after 90s hit series, such as "Beverly Hills 90210" and "Grief Growing Up Girls" got new versions, now it's time for the situation comedy "The Cool Prince of Bel Air" To be resurrected.

According to a report in the Hollywood Reporter, the series that introduced the world to Will Smith will be revived by the actor himself - this time in a dramatic version, which will be called "Bel Air". The new version will be based on a four-minute video that went up on YouTube last year, which shows a fictional trailer that imagines what his favorite sitcom would have looked like if it had taken place in a dramatic format today.

The video, produced by a fan of the series named Morgan Cooper, went viral, and even managed to capture Sammy's attention. Cooper has reportedly been a friend of Smith and the two have been in charge of producing the novelty for over a year.

This is a joint production between Smith's Westbrook Studios and the production company of the original series, Universal TV. At this point, Bell Air's producers are discussing with various companies and streaming providers, including Netflix, Peacock (NCB's streaming service) and HBO MAX, regarding the acquisition of the series, all of which have expressed interest in it. The latter even holds the broadcasting rights to the original series. The producers and creators of the original series also intend to take part in the project as producers.

"The Cool Prince of Bel Air" aired for six seasons, between 1990 and 1996, on NBC and was also broadcast in Israel. It revolves around the plots of Will, a reckless Philadelphia boy who got involved in street fights at his place of residence, and was therefore sent to his wealthy cousins' home in the upscale Bel Air neighborhood for "re-education." The sitcom plot was based on the dynamic between the boy who grew up in poverty and his cramped and wealthy family, and it spawned coins, memorable chapters in popular cultural history and of course the "Carlton Dance" by Alfonso Ribeiro, the actor who played Will's young and rich cousin Carlton.

The series kicked off the Hollywood career of Smith, who until then had been recognized as part of the Grammy-winning rap duo. Jesse Jeff and the Cool Prince, who has kept in touch with most of the cast over the past decades. In recent years, "The Cool Prince" has been revitalized among nostalgia-loving adults, as well as among generations of people who did not know it in real time.

This includes another series that demonstrates the demand of broadcasters for new versions of successful television and film brands from the past. This is due to the cost savings usually invested in promoting and raising awareness of the product, due to the existing popularity and renewed interest in it. One of the requirements for a new version on which the names of the broadcast networks place special emphasis is the involvement of the original staff members, as can also be seen in this case. It should be noted that despite the initial popularity and enthusiasm, many revived series did not have the success of the original series.
