If it is not considered a satisfying torment to experience symptoms like chills, fever, cough, shortness of breath and loss of sense of taste and smell, we already know today that some people who have recovered from the corona virus experience severe symptoms that stay with them for weeks, months and maybe even a lifetime. Here are the worst of them:

      Heart problems

A study in 69 countries, funded by the British Heart Foundation (BHF), found that 55 per cent of 1,261 patients surveyed underwent abnormal changes in the way their blood was pumped, with one in seven showing evidence of severe impaired heart function. The majority (901 patients) were never diagnosed with heart problems, which led the scientists to conclude that COVID-19 could severely affect the heart.

Among this group, 46 percent of heart scans were abnormal and 13 percent had a serious illness. Just over half (54 percent) of all scans were performed in the intensive care unit and other scans were performed in general wards, heart and lung wards and in research and development.

Dr Sonia Bab-Narayan, an associate medical director at the British Heart Foundation and a consultant cardiologist, said: “Severe COVID-19 disease can cause damage to the heart and blood circulation. We urgently need to better understand why this is happening so that we can provide adequate care - both short-term and long-term. "

      Lung damage

Information coming as early as March from treating corona patients in Hong Kong found that people recovering after contracting the virus can still be left with significantly weakened lung capacity, with some finding they are still panting after a brisk walk, even though they have recovered.

The Hong Kong Hospitals Authority raised the findings after examining the first wave of patients discharged from the hospital and fully recovered from COVID-19. Of the 12 people in the group, two to three saw changes in lung condition.

"They are panting if they walk a little faster," Owen Tseng Tak-Yin, the medical director of the PA's Center for Infectious Diseases, told a news conference, according to the South China Morning Post. "Some patients may suffer from a 20 to 30 percent decrease in lung function," after full recovery. However, Tzeng added that patients can perform cardiopulmonary endurance exercises, such as swimming, that improve lung capacity over time.

CT scans of corona patients show a condition of "ground glass", a phenomenon in which fluid accumulates in the lungs and appears as white spots. The scans taken from a patient with the corona virus and performed at different points in time, show that the patient's "milky glass" effect was manifested as his disease progressed.

      Brain damage

Corona plague could cause a wave of brain damage among those infected with the virus, British researchers from University College London warned last month. The researchers described how Covid-19 causes neurological complications that include: stroke, nerve damage and potentially fatal brain inflammation - even in cases where patients did not have severe respiratory symptoms associated with coronary heart disease.

The study, published in the journal Brain, examined 43 patients who were hospitalized and treated for suspected or verified cases of Covid-19 in April-May 2020. The age of the patients ranged from 16 to 85 and the severity of their symptoms ranged from mild to severe. Among the sample group, the researchers found 10 patients with "temporary impairment of brain function" and hallucinations, 12 cases of encephalitis, 8 cases of stroke and 8 cases of nerve damage.

Aside from the immediate brain damage, experts report people who have been severely ill and hospitalized with the corona virus who have been found to be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. Members of the Covid Trauma Response working group, which led a college university in London, said patients in intensive care were at the highest risk of experiencing post-trauma (PTSD). Experts said it is necessary to conduct regular tests and follow-up of these recoveries at least a year after recovery.

      Pain and fatigue

Patients who recovered from corona also reported muscle and body aches. A survey conducted at Indiana University in the US showed that more than a quarter (26.5 percent) of respondents said they had symptoms that caused pain. It was not only muscle or body pain but also joint pain, headaches, chest pain, sore throat, lower back pain, Nerve pain and even kidney

pain.In another study published in the journal JAMA, more than half (53.1 percent) of participants reported fatigue two months after suffering from corona, making the fatigue symptom the longest and most common side effect.
