"Michael DiMartino and I recently decided to leave the Netflix live-action adaptation of 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' . DiMartino and I started the series in 2002. From now on we will no longer be involved in the project in any form, ”explains Konietzko on Instagram. He also goes into the reasons for this drastic decision: Although Netflix had promised the two of them that it would primarily focus on their ideas of a live-action series, the streaming giant is said to have not kept this agreement. Konietzko also speaks of a "negative and not very supportive working atmosphere" that came about through the approach of Netflix .

In addition, he points out that the two would have always been open to suggestions for improvement and suggestions - provided that they matched their ideas of a new edition.
