Starting this coming Sunday, Israelis will be able to enjoy the magical landscapes, impressive buildings, entertainment and nightlife that Croatia has to offer. Before you pack your bags and buy the ticket, it is important that you know about some must-see sites in the country, without which your trip will not look the same.

Plitvice Lakes - the magical reserve of Croatia

The main site for travelers in Croatia, one of the main reasons for a trip in a country with spectacular views - is a visit to Plitvice Lakes, a paradise on earth. The reserve is located next to the mountain range of Croatia and covers an area of almost 300 square kilometers. The site has 16 lakes, upper and lower and is all in insane colors of turquoise, green and blue.

In addition to the lakes, there are 90 (!) Amazing waterfalls in different and varied sizes. The reserve is almost perfectly adapted for tourists in terms of organized trails and another way that can be walked in the park is by boat or free shuttle. The busiest summer months so expect a slow pace walk for the park trails, in addition the water temperature tends to be lower and the waterfalls are likely to be less impressive than usual. The most recommended seasons to visit the park are autumn and spring.

Where is? The Plitvice Reserve is located southwest of the capital Zagreb between Plitvice and Karka. These are hours of driving on a road that passes through abandoned villages and ruined houses, a chilling testimony to the recent civil war that took place in the area.

Karka Reserve - Spilled waterfalls

Like Plitvice, it is one of the most beautiful natural sites in Croatia. The Karka River is in a deep canyon and it sinks between the rocks through the waterfalls. In the area of the lower waterfalls, is the largest waterfall Skardinski Bock (36 meters high) where the natural pool is located and this is the advantage in the land, unlike Plitvice - you can bathe in it. The area of the park is characterized by a series of waterfalls and waterlogged waterfalls, in cases like Plitvice and Karka - the photos can speak for themselves.

Not to be missed: a dip in the natural pool under the waterfalls!

The port city of Dubrovnik

An ancient port city and spectacular in its beauty. It has historic sites, ancient buildings and breathtaking views of the Adriatic Sea. Dubrovnik's unique architecture led to the city becoming the main photo set of the classic "Game of Thrones" and to this day tours can be found among the sites that were used to photograph the series.

Not to be missed: A comprehensive tour of the Old City and the Game of Thrones filming sites.

Hawar Island

One of the amazing islands that the islands of Croatia have to offer. The pristine landscape has rich historical buildings and spectacular natural treasures. The island can be reached by a 30-minute cruise from the seaside town of Durban (it is also possible to reach from Split but the cruise takes over two hours). In the city center there is a spectacular fortress from which you can look at the sights of the island and watch the sunset, during the day it is recommended to simply walk in the alleys and narrow roads between the forests and the tiny villages.

Not to be missed:  the amazing local wine!

Split

One of the tourist cities in Croatia, the city is located on a peninsula on the east coast of the Adriatic Sea. The Mediterranean weather is what actually makes the place a popular tourist destination (and of course as in most of the country, the culture and the physical history of the place). The city is colorful and really has all the elements that the average tourist desires, cafes, green and blue landscapes, yachts and perfect weather!

In the city enjoy walks in the narrow streets, markets and walks in the forts and palaces that so characterize the fascinating history of Split and Croatia in general. In addition, many scenes from Game of Thrones were also filmed.

Not to be missed: A visit to Diocletian's Palace and a climb to the bell tower for an amazing view of the city.

Zagreb

The capital city of Croatia is the most significant focus in it. The bustling nightlife, markets, ancient buildings reminiscent of classic Europe and its restaurants and cafes will take you on an exceptionally beautiful city break in a modern and beautiful city. The weather in summer is very hot and similar to that in Israel.

The price level in the city is low and similar to that in the Eastern European capitals and no less important for the Israeli tourist - excellent shopping that includes international brands and large malls. Zagreb is suitable for vacations for the whole family and couples.
